I have just received a variation of the above scam, but by phone; a Mr Renaldo Baldwin, allegedly from US Customs, told me that I have been awarded $2.5 million in a draw of credit card numbers (used for on-line purchases), and paid for by a Donald Trump organisation. In return for this cheque I would have to submit by Western Union to a merchant bank in Jamaica the sum of $86.32 as a shipping and security fee, and on receipt of this my cheque would be sent to me. The phone number he gave me to let him know when I had sent off the money and to activate the procedure was – surprise, surprise – a Jamaican one, 1-876 [phone number removed by editor], though he claimed to be speaking from Wisconsin.
So beware if Mr Baldwin calls you…
