Unfortunately I fell for the scam. I didn’t catch cargil.com as opposed to cargill.com; However I went to the cargill.com website and asked them about this scab email. Apparently someone within the company maybe in on this plot by intercepting emails. Anything of this nature from South Africa is suspicious. Perhaps I should subscribe to caller ID just in case they start calling. also I told them that I would never reveal my check routing # or SS #. I also added in that email that I had to sell some of my furniture in order to pay for my electric bill. I am retired with low fixed income. There is not much they could swindle from me. I hope from that note that they will say that I disqualify for their free money. :-)

They want your money – they want to charge you ‘fees’ and not give you any money.

I have also received these letters and also from the FBI. one said that if i didn’t comply with the request from the lottery letter i could be locked up. I checked with a friend of mine, and he said the FBI would not send you a letter they would just come knock on your door. So do not give them any information THIS IS A SCAM BY SCUM OF THE EARTH. i recived a letter like that and i am glad ot know that it is a scam i was really worried cause i ahve kids and i do not want ot loose them by getting into trouble with the law thanks

See our guide on identifying and avoiding scams. In general the answer is that none of these are ever real - just delete the email or SMS message.
